Hoi An Memories Show 2026: What Ky Uc Hoi An Costs, the Night It Goes Dark, and the 9 PM Exit Off the Island

Almost everything worth doing in Hội An after dark happens somewhere a car cannot go. The heritage grid is closed to vehicles, the night markets sit behind a footbridge, and the evening ends with a walk out to wherever your driver could legally stop.

Ký ức Hội An — sold in English as the Hoi An Memories Show — is the exception. It plays on an island in the Thu Bồn, outside the protected streets, on a stage Vietnamese coverage puts at more than 25,000 square metres. The car goes almost to the seat. It also means a few thousand people leave at the same minute, over one bridge, onto one road, and that is the part nobody plans for.

What is Ký ức Hội An, and what actually happens on that stage?

It is thực cảnh — real-scene theatre, staged outdoors against the river rather than inside a building. It premiered on 18 March 2018, produced by Gami Theme Park, with a cast Vietnamese reporting puts at around 500, drawn from Hà Nội, Hồ Chí Minh City and Đà Nẵng and trained by international choreographers for roughly half a year before opening night.

Five acts, threaded together by a girl at a loom whose weaving stands in for an unbroken line of time:

• Sinh mệnh — birth. The first cry, the loom, white áo dài, the port before it was a port.
• Đám cưới — the wedding of Princess Huyền Trân to the Chăm king Chế Mân, the alliance that brought this coast into Đại Việt.
• Đèn và biển — lanterns and the sea, the century when Hội An was one of the busiest harbours in Southeast Asia.
• Hội nhập — integration: the Japanese and Chinese quarters, the merchants who stayed.
• Áo dài — a hundred women in áo dài walking a lit path beside the water.

From January 2025 the production was rebuilt with a reported multi-million-dollar upgrade adding laser work, 3D mapping and reworked sound. If you saw it before 2025, you have not seen this version.

Runtime is about an hour; listings quote 60 to 65 minutes. The auditorium seats around 3,300, and Vietnamese listings put a typical night's audience at 500 to 1,000 — the most useful number here, because it means the expensive blocks are not buying you scarcity.

Where is it, and why does the address keep changing?

The park is Công viên văn hóa chủ đề Ấn tượng Hội An, on the island in the Thu Bồn that local maps call Cồn Hến and the operator markets as Đảo Ký Ức Hội An. The approach is simple: 200 Nguyễn Tri Phương, on the Cẩm Nam side, then left onto the bridge that crosses to the island.

The confusion is administrative, not geographic. Since 1 July 2025, Cẩm Nam has been folded with Minh An, Cẩm Phô, Sơn Phong and Cẩm Kim into a single phường Hội An, now inside Đà Nẵng rather than Quảng Nam province. Booking platforms still print all three versions. The bridge has not moved.

Can the car actually get you there?

Yes — worth saying plainly, because in Hội An the answer is usually no. The park sits outside the heritage pedestrian zone, so none of the Old Town closure hours apply. Vehicles of 16 seats and under are reported to drive right inside the grounds; anything larger sets down near the Trần Quang Khải wharf area and walks the last stretch. For a private car that means door to gate, both directions, in ordinary shoes.

Drive times, door to door:

• Old Town (Chùa Cầu) — about 1.5 km. Ten to fifteen minutes on foot over the Cẩm Nam bridge, or five minutes by car going around the closure.
• An Bàng and Cửa Đại — 6 to 7 km, 15 minutes.
• Central Đà Nẵng — 30 km, roughly 45 minutes on the coastal road.
• Đà Nẵng airport — 33 km, 45 to 50 minutes.
• Huế — 130 km. Not an evening trip. If the show matters, sleep this side of the Hải Vân.

What do tickets cost in 2026, and what does the park add?

The official adult tiers are listed at 600,000 VND (Eco), 750,000 VND (High) and 1,200,000 VND (VIP) — call it USD 23, 29 and 46 at 2026 rates. Other 2026 listings quote 650,000 to 850,000 VND across the middle tiers, and authorised online sellers routinely discount 5 to 30 percent, which is why the same night carries wildly different figures. Children 100 to 139 cm are widely listed at half price; under 1 m, free. Park-only entry, without the show, runs roughly 50,000 to 100,000 VND depending on the promotion.

Gates open at 4 pm. Between about 5 pm and 7 pm the park runs a rolling programme of fifteen to twenty-odd mini-shows around the grounds — Trạng Tý, Lụa ơi, Chúa Nguyễn tuyển tướng, and a staging of the wedding of Công nữ Ngọc Hoa to the Japanese merchant Araki Sotaro, the same 17th-century marriage the night market's riverside street is named for. Combo tickets fold these in with the 8 pm show.

When should you leave, and how early is early enough?

Two honest plans.

The full evening. Leave Đà Nẵng around 4 pm, or a Hội An hotel around 4:45 pm. You arrive with light still on the river, walk the recreated streets, catch three or four mini-shows, eat inside the park, and take your seat without hurrying. Book this version with children: the two hours before curtain absorb the waiting they are bad at.

The show only. Leave Đà Nẵng by 6:45 pm, or Hội An by 7:20 pm. Seating opens well before eight; arriving at 7:40 pm gets you in without stress. Arriving at 7:55 pm means finding your row in the dark. This is the version that pairs with an Old Town afternoon and an early dinner, and it works only because the park is the one night venue a car can deliver you to at 7:40 pm.

What happens if it rains — and in October, it will

This matters more than any other line here, because from late September the wet quarter arrives on this coast.

The show is open to the sky. It normally plays through ordinary rain, with free ponchos handed out at the ticket check. VIP seating is covered; Eco and High are not. Only genuinely severe weather reschedules or cancels a performance.

So the calculus inverts by season. February to August, the cheap seats are the right call and the cover is a luxury. October to December, the cover is the product — the difference between an hour of theatre and an hour of theatre in a plastic bag. Check the forecast on the day rather than the week before: this coast's rain comes in hard, short bands rather than all-night drizzle.

And when the Thu Bồn runs high, the low approaches on the Cẩm Nam side are the first roads in Hội An to take water. Your driver knows by mid-afternoon whether the bridge approach is clean. Ask then, not at 7:30 pm.

What does 9 pm look like from the driver's seat?

The show ends at nine. Within about four minutes the whole auditorium is on its feet and moving toward one exit, across one bridge, onto Nguyễn Tri Phương — a road never built for a theatre. Drivers without an agreed plan circle. Motorbike taxis swarm the gate. It clears in fifteen minutes, but those are a bad fifteen minutes to be standing in.

Three things fix it. Agree a fixed pickup point before you go in, not a vague "outside". Agree that your driver is in place by 8:50 pm, before the wave rather than after it. And if the gate is solid when you come out, walk sixty seconds further along the road and be collected there — moving away from the crush beats waiting for it to dissolve.

From there it is twenty minutes back to most Hội An hotels and about fifty to Đà Nẵng, on quiet roads. Or not back at all: the Old Town lantern streets are still lit at 9:15 pm and five minutes away, which is the real argument for keeping a car for the evening rather than booking a one-way transfer.
