Hoi An Addresses 2026: Why Your Hotel Is Now in Da Nang City
Since 1 July 2025 there is no Quảng Nam province and no city of Hội An — the Old Town is a ward of Đà Nẵng. Here are the four new names that replaced thirteen, where Mỹ Sơn and Cù Lao Chàm ended up, and what a driver actually needs when the booking form and the map disagree.

A booking confirmation came through last week with three addresses on it: the hotel's street in Hội An, the province of Quảng Nam, and a Google pin two hundred metres into a field. The guest was worried. There was nothing to worry about — the hotel is where it has always been. What changed is the paperwork around it, and in 2026 the paperwork is still catching up with itself. If you have booked anything in Hội An and the province line looks wrong, this is why.
Is Hội An still in Quảng Nam, or in Đà Nẵng now?
Đà Nẵng. On 1 July 2025 the province of Quảng Nam and the city of Đà Nẵng were merged into one city-level unit that kept the name Đà Nẵng. Quảng Nam is no longer a province. The result is the largest centrally governed city in Vietnam by area — roughly 11,860 km² with a population above three million — stretching from the Hải Vân Pass in the north to the Quảng Ngãi border in the south and west into the Trường Sơn range.
Underneath that, the commune-level map was redrawn by Nghị quyết 1659/NQ-UBTVQH15, dated 16 June 2025. The whole city now has 94 commune-level units: 23 wards, 70 communes and one special zone. The old middle layer of districts and provincial cities — including the city of Hội An — went away.
What are Hội An's new ward names, and what is in each?
Thirteen units became four. This is the part worth knowing, because it is what hotel staff, police and courier drivers now use:
- Phường Hội An — 10.81 km², about 37,222 people. Formed from the wards of Minh An, Cẩm Phô, Sơn Phong and Cẩm Nam plus the commune of Cẩm Kim. This is the heritage core: the Old Town, the Japanese Covered Bridge, the ticket booths, the central market, Cẩm Nam's snack lanes over the bridge, and Cẩm Kim with Kim Bồng carpentry village.
- Phường Hội An Đông — 18.22 km², about 31,109 people. Cẩm Châu, Cửa Đại and Cẩm Thanh. The eastern approach, Cửa Đại beach, and the Bãy Mẫu coconut water-palms where the basket boats run.
- Phường Hội An Tây — 18.09 km², about 42,370 people. Thanh Hà, Tân An, Cẩm An and Cẩm Hà. Thanh Hà pottery village, Trà Quế's herb beds, and An Bàng beach, which was the old Cẩm An.
- Xã Tân Hiệp — 16.43 km², about 2,614 people. The Cù Lao Chàm islands, left untouched because an island group has nothing to merge with.
A useful side effect: if a listing says "Cẩm An" or "Cẩm Thanh", that is the pre-2025 wording and it still tells you exactly where you are. Nobody renamed the beaches.
Where did Mỹ Sơn, Điện Bàn and Tam Kỳ end up?
Mỹ Sơn is the one that surprises people. The communes of Duy Châu, Duy Hòa, Duy Phú and Duy Tân were merged into a single commune named for the river that drains them — xã Thu Bồn, 108.77 km², about 36,909 people, offices at the former Duy Hòa. The sanctuary sits in thôn Mỹ Sơn inside it. So the full address of a World Heritage site that used to read "Duy Phú, Duy Xuyên, Quảng Nam" now reads "xã Thu Bồn, Đà Nẵng". The towers are unmoved and still busy: Vietnamese reporting put Mỹ Sơn at nearly 314,000 visitors and 50.8 billion VND of revenue over the first nine months of 2026.
Điện Bàn, the 20 km of road and sand between Hội An and Đà Nẵng where a great many resorts sit, went from twenty units to six. The ones you will see on a booking form are phường Điện Bàn (Vĩnh Điện, Điện Minh, Điện Phương), phường Điện Bàn Đông (Điện Ngọc, Điện Dương and the three Điện Nam wards — this is the whole beach strip), phường Điện Bàn Bắc and xã Điện Bàn Tây. Tam Kỳ, the old provincial capital 60 km south, kept its name as phường Tam Kỳ, formed from An Mỹ, An Xuân and Trường Xuân.
Did anything about actually visiting change?
Very little, which is the honest answer. Hội An's Old Town remains a UNESCO World Heritage site; the listing is made by UNESCO, not by a provincial boundary. The Old Town ticket is unchanged at 120,000 VND for foreign visitors and 80,000 VND for Vietnamese visitors, still five heritage sites from a list of more than twenty, still sold from the same booths. Mỹ Sơn's opening hours, Cù Lao Chàm's boat seasons and the Full Moon lantern nights all run as before.
What did change is where notices come from. Road closures for festivals, flood warnings on the Thu Bồn, landslide orders on the mountain highways and ferry suspensions to Cù Lao Chàm are now issued through Đà Nẵng city channels. In the wet months, from October to November, that is the practical difference: one city portal to watch instead of two.
Do the drive times change?
Not by a minute. Boundaries moved; asphalt did not. From the Old Town it is still 30 km and 40 to 60 minutes to central Đà Nẵng or the airport, still about 40 km and an hour west to Mỹ Sơn, still 125 km and around three hours north to Huế through the tunnel, longer and better over the Hải Vân Pass. Cửa Đại pier to Cù Lao Chàm is still a 20-minute speedboat crossing in settled sea.
Two things are worth knowing from the driver's seat. First, the plates. 43 was Đà Nẵng, 92 was Quảng Nam, and since the merger the registration system hands out both at random to anyone registering in the new city, with no requirement to change an existing plate. A 92 car is not an out-of-town car any more.
Second, what a pickup actually needs. Give us the street number, the street name, the property's own name and whichever ward line your confirmation prints — old or new, both are readable. Then add the thing that genuinely decides the pickup: which side of the river you are on, or which beach. Most of the Old Town is closed to cars for much of the day, so a phường Hội An address resolves to the nearest corner a vehicle can legally wait on, usually a two to five minute walk, and your driver will name it when confirming. For airport runs we still leave Hội An three hours before an international departure and two hours before a domestic one, measured from your door, not from the ward office.
If you want the day driven rather than decoded — tell us the trip at hoiandriver.com/quote; a real driver prices it, and 10% books it.
good questions
- Is Hoi An in Quang Nam or Da Nang in 2026?
- Đà Nẵng. On 1 July 2025 Quảng Nam province and Đà Nẵng city merged into a single city-level unit keeping the name Đà Nẵng, so Hội An now sits inside Đà Nẵng city. Quảng Nam no longer exists as a province, although thousands of hotel listings, printed guidebooks and booking confirmations still carry the old address.
- What are Hoi An's new ward names?
- Four units replaced thirteen. Phường Hội An covers the Old Town, Cẩm Nam and Cẩm Kim. Phường Hội An Đông covers Cẩm Châu, Cửa Đại and Cẩm Thanh. Phường Hội An Tây covers Thanh Hà, Tân An, Cẩm An and Cẩm Hà. Xã Tân Hiệp, the Cù Lao Chàm islands, was left exactly as it was.
- Which ward is the Hoi An Old Town in?
- Phường Hội An, formed from the old wards of Minh An, Cẩm Phô, Sơn Phong, Cẩm Nam and the commune of Cẩm Kim: 10.81 km² and about 37,222 residents. Minh An was the Old Town ward, so the Japanese Covered Bridge, the assembly halls and the ticket booths are all inside phường Hội An.
- Which ward is An Bang beach in now?
- Phường Hội An Tây. An Bàng sat in the old ward of Cẩm An, which merged with Thanh Hà, Tân An and Cẩm Hà to make an 18.09 km² ward of roughly 42,370 people. The same ward now holds Thanh Hà pottery village and the herb beds of Trà Quế.
- What address is My Son Sanctuary under now?
- Thôn Mỹ Sơn, xã Thu Bồn, Đà Nẵng. The four communes of Duy Châu, Duy Hòa, Duy Phú and Duy Tân became one commune named after the Thu Bồn river, 108.77 km² and about 36,909 people, with its offices at the former Duy Hòa. The ruins have not moved and the 40 km drive from Hội An is unchanged.
- Does the merger change the Hoi An Old Town ticket?
- No. The Old Town is still a UNESCO World Heritage site, the ticket is still 120,000 VND for foreign visitors and 80,000 VND for Vietnamese visitors, and it still admits five heritage sites of your choosing. The booths are in the same places.
- Why do cars here have both 43 and 92 plates?
- 43 was Đà Nẵng's code and 92 was Quảng Nam's. Since the merger the registration system issues both at random to anyone registering in Đà Nẵng city, and existing plates do not have to be changed, so a 92 car and a 43 car on the same street are both local.
- What should I write on a booking form for a Hoi An pickup?
- The street number, street name and the hotel's own name, plus which side of the river or which beach it is near. Either the old ward or the new one is fine as the administrative line. Drivers navigate by street and landmark, and in the Old Town by the nearest vehicle-accessible corner, because most of it is closed to cars.
