Great Unity Culture Week 2026: Da Nang's 18-24 November Programme and the Night at Tien Son

Tuần Văn hóa - Đại đoàn kết dân tộc runs 18 to 24 November 2026, and this is the first year Đà Nẵng has staged it at city scale — theme Tinh hoa văn hóa - Sức mạnh đại đoàn kết, venues from the Tiên Sơn arena to Hội An, Mỹ Sơn and Khâm Đức in the western mountains. The centrepiece is a 19:30 gala on 23 November in a 6,500-seat hall. What that means for the 30 km from Hội An, and for the kerb afterwards.

Most of what Việt Nam puts on in the third week of November happens in places visitors never see: a courtyard behind a ward committee office, a hall with plastic chairs, a stage built in a morning. We drive past dozens of them every year without stopping. That is what Ngày hội Đại đoàn kết toàn dân tộc has always been — 18 November, neighbourhood scale, by design.

This year Đà Nẵng has taken the whole week and put a roof over it big enough to hold six and a half thousand people.

What is Great Unity Culture Week, and why is 2026 different?

Tuần Văn hóa - Đại đoàn kết dân tộc 2026 runs 18 to 24 November, under the theme Tinh hoa văn hóa - Sức mạnh đại đoàn kết — the essence of culture, the strength of great unity. The week is bracketed deliberately: it opens on 18 November, the long-standing Ngày hội Đại đoàn kết toàn dân tộc, and closes on 24 November, which from this year is Ngày Văn hóa Việt Nam, the country's new paid national holiday.

The national directive behind it, Công văn 6989/BVHTTDL-VHTTCSGĐ, is specific about the material: folk music and dance, costume, cuisine, folk games, traditional crafts, heritage transmission. It is also specific about geography — the instruction is to push programming down into residential areas rather than concentrate it in city centres.

What makes 2026 different here is that Đà Nẵng has done both at once. The ward-level programmes continue, and above them the city has layered its first week-long edition at municipal scale, with venues named at Cung Thể thao Tiên Sơn, in Hội An, at Mỹ Sơn, and at Khâm Đức — the old Phước Sơn district centre, deep in the mountains west of everything.

What is actually on, and where?

The anchor is a single evening. The city tourism portal lists a special arts programme on 23 November, 19:30 to 22:30, at Cung Thể thao Tiên Sơn, with more than one hundred artists and performers. That is the one event in the week built for an audience of thousands rather than a neighbourhood.

Around it: ward and commune programmes across the city through the week, a further programme listed for the community at Khâm Đức on the evening of 26 November, and in Hội An a separate and longer heritage strand that overlaps the week at both ends.

One item we would hold loosely. The city's late-year programme coverage also mentions a 3D mapping projection on the Hàn River, themed Bốn nghìn năm - Một dòng chảy, Một dân tộc - Một mạch nguồn. We have not seen a date or a start time published for it. If river-light is the reason you are coming into town, ask at the kerb on the day rather than planning an evening around it.

How early should you leave Hội An for the 23 November night?

About 30 km separates the Hội An Old Town from the arena. Normal running is 40 to 55 minutes.

Leave Hội An by 17:45 for a 19:30 curtain. The reason is the building, not the traffic. Cung Thể thao Tiên Sơn seats roughly 6,500 and opens out to about 7,200 — so the fifteen minutes before a gala there is not a trickle of arrivals, it is a hall filling through a handful of gates on one street. Arrive at 18:30 and you walk in. Arrive at 19:20 and you are in a queue that does not care what your ticket says.

From elsewhere: Đà Nẵng International Airport is about 5 km, 12 to 15 minutes — this is one of the rare evening events in the city that works on an arrival day, because the arena is closer to the terminal than the beach is. A hotel on Võ Nguyên Giáp is 15 to 20 minutes; leave by 18:50. From the Marble Mountains, about 20 minutes.

For the 22:30 finish, the drive home to Hội An is the easy half — the roads south empty out after ten. It is the first four hundred metres that cost you.

Where can the car actually stop at Tien Son?

The arena stands on Phan Đăng Lưu in phường Hòa Cường, on the west bank, between the Trần Thị Lý and Tiên Sơn bridge approaches. Two working notes from the seat:

  • Navigate to the building, not the house number. Sources list the address as both 01 and 03 Phan Đăng Lưu. The arena is unmistakable and the numbering is not; give your driver the venue name.
  • Drop on the approach, collect one block back. Phan Đăng Lưu absorbs a stopping car well enough an hour before a show. At 22:30, with a hall emptying, it does not. Agree a named side street before you get out and walk the two minutes to it. A pickup plan made in a crowd at 22:35 is not a plan.
  • The bridge choice matters more than the route. Coming from Hội An your driver will pick between the Trần Thị Lý and Tiên Sơn crossings depending on what the riverfront is doing that evening. On a night with anything staged on Bạch Đằng, the southern crossing is the quiet one.

What does the week add at Mỹ Sơn?

Less than the venue list implies, and it lands early. The Mỹ Sơn management board's 2026 plan puts the Âm vang Mỹ Sơn programme on the 15th of each month, which means the November edition falls on 15 November — three days before the week opens. Listings put the two slots at 09:00 and 14:45, at the tower groups rather than in the covered performance house.

That last detail is the one to plan around. Outdoor performance at the towers is suspended in storms, and mid-November is not a month that respects a schedule. Admission is 250,000 VND per visitor, roughly 10 USD, now charged identically to Vietnamese and foreign guests.

Mỹ Sơn is about an hour from Hội An. If the 15th is your day, take the 09:00 slot and leave Hội An at 06:45: you get the towers before the coach fleet, the performance, and the car back on the ĐT610 before the heat. The afternoon slot puts you there in the worst light of the day.

What is Hội An doing in the same fortnight?

Running something quieter and longer. Hội An's Ngày Di sản văn hóa Việt Nam programme covers 20 November to 5 December, built around forty years of the Trung tâm Bảo tồn Di sản Văn hóa Thế giới Hội An, with an exhibition of Hán Nôm inscriptions and a special display titled Không gian xưa among the listings. Then the first Lễ hội Đèn lồng quốc tế follows, 3 to 6 December, themed Hội An - Sắc màu Di sản.

So the shape of the fortnight, from the road: Mỹ Sơn on the 15th, the Đà Nẵng week from the 18th with its one big night on the 23rd, the 24th a public holiday, and Hội An's heritage strand running underneath all of it into December. Three of those four are indoors or under cover, which in the third week of November is the point.

What is the weather going to do?

Wet, warm and unreliable. Late November is still inside the Quảng Nam and Đà Nẵng rain season, which is precisely why a week of programming in an indoor arena, a museum-grade exhibition in Hội An and a covered gala is better value now than the same programming in April would be.

Build the days accordingly. The arena night does not care about rain. The Old Town exhibitions do not care about rain. Mỹ Sơn's outdoor slots care a great deal, and a mountain run to Khâm Đức cares most of all — that road is beautiful in clear air and a long way from anywhere in a downpour.

If you want the 23rd driven — out of Hội An at 17:45, dropped on Phan Đăng Lưu, the car on a named side street while the hall empties, home before midnight — tell us the evening at hoiandriver.com/quote. A real driver prices the trip in USD, a 10% non-refundable deposit books it and holds your driver and your dates, and the balance is paid at the end of the trip.

good questions

What is Great Unity Culture Week 2026 in Da Nang?
Tuần Văn hóa - Đại đoàn kết dân tộc 2026 is a week of state-run cultural programming held from 18 to 24 November 2026, themed Tinh hoa văn hóa - Sức mạnh đại đoàn kết, or Essence of Culture - Strength of Great Unity. It opens on 18 November, Ngày hội Đại đoàn kết toàn dân tộc, and closes on 24 November, which from 2026 is the new paid national holiday Ngày Văn hóa Việt Nam. This is the first year Đà Nẵng has run it at city scale rather than only at neighbourhood level.
Where is Great Unity Culture Week held?
Across several venues rather than one site. Đà Nẵng's own programme centres on Cung Thể thao Tiên Sơn, the indoor arena on Phan Đăng Lưu in phường Hòa Cường, and the announcements name cultural venues in Hội An, at Mỹ Sơn, and at Khâm Đức in the western mountains. The ministry directive behind the week also pushes activities down into residential wards, so expect small local programmes you will not find listed anywhere.
What time is the 23 November gala at Cung The thao Tien Son?
The city tourism portal lists the special arts programme on the evening of 23 November from 19:30 to 22:30, with more than one hundred artists and performers. Treat the finish time as approximate — galas of this kind run long more often than short.
How far is Cung The thao Tien Son from Hoi An?
About 30 km, and 40 to 55 minutes in normal conditions. From Đà Nẵng International Airport it is roughly 5 km and 12 to 15 minutes. From a beach hotel on Võ Nguyên Giáp, 15 to 20 minutes. The arena sits on the west bank of the Hàn in phường Hòa Cường, near the Tiên Sơn and Trần Thị Lý bridge approaches.
What time should you leave Hoi An for the Tien Son gala?
Leave by 17:45 for a 19:30 start. That gets you across the river before the arena's own arrival crush, which for a hall seating about 6,500 and expandable to roughly 7,200 is not a small thing. Fifteen minutes of margin bought at 17:45 is free; the same fifteen minutes bought at 18:50 does not exist.
Is there anything at My Son during the culture week?
The Mỹ Sơn management board's 2026 plan schedules the Âm vang Mỹ Sơn programme on the 15th of each month, which puts the November edition on 15 November — just before the week opens rather than inside it. Listings put the slots at 09:00 and 14:45. Outdoor performances at the tower groups are suspended in storms, so the November edition is weather-dependent. Admission to the sanctuary is 250,000 VND per visitor, about 10 USD, charged the same to Vietnamese and foreign guests.
What is Hoi An running at the same time?
A longer and quieter programme. Hội An's Ngày Di sản văn hóa Việt Nam activities run from 20 November to 5 December, themed on forty years of the Trung tâm Bảo tồn Di sản Văn hóa Thế giới Hội An, and the listings include an exhibition of Hán Nôm inscriptions and a special display called Không gian xưa. The first Lễ hội Đèn lồng quốc tế then follows from 3 to 6 December under the theme Hội An - Sắc màu Di sản.
Is it worth driving west to Kham Duc for the culture week?
Only if the mountains were already on your list. Khâm Đức is roughly 120 km from Hội An on đường Hồ Chí Minh, and the last stretch is mountain road — plan on three hours or more each way, not the two the distance suggests. A programme listed there for the evening of 26 November is built for the community that lives there, not for visitors. The drive itself is the reason to go, and it is a good one in clear weather.
