Da Nang Train Station 2026: Arriving by Rail, and the 33 km That Follow
Ga Đà Nẵng sits at 791 Hải Phòng, about 33 km and an hour from the Hội An Old Town — and the trains that reach it land at 05:55, 10:36, 13:40 and 22:43, which are four completely different arrivals. The heritage train over Hải Vân relaunched on 26 March 2026 with new carriages. What all of it means for the car waiting outside.

Flights land in banks. Trains land alone — one long carriage-load at a time, at hours nobody would choose, with more luggage than anyone admits when they book. We meet both, and the train arrival is the one people plan worst, because the map makes Đà Nẵng and Hội An look adjacent and the timetable makes 05:55 look like a normal time to begin a day.
Here is the whole thing from the road: where the station is, what actually arrives there, what the Huế train over Hải Vân is now that it has been rebuilt, and when a car should be sitting outside.
Where is Ga Đà Nẵng, and how far is Hội An from it?
The station is at 791 Hải Phòng, in the Thanh Khê quarter — west of the centre, inland of the river, a plain forecourt behind an old colonial-era frontage. It is the only mainline passenger station for the city, and since 1 July 2025 that city legally includes Hội An.
Two distances matter when you step out of the hall.
To Đà Nẵng airport: under 4 km, ten to fifteen minutes. The station and the terminal are almost neighbours, which is why a rail-in, fly-out trip works well here.
To the Hội An Old Town: about 33 km, 50 to 65 minutes. That is longer than the 30 km people quote for Đà Nẵng–Hội An, and it drives longer still, because the station sits on the wrong side of the city. The first 15 to 20 minutes are urban — Hải Phòng, then a river crossing, then a choice: the beach road south past Non Nước, or the inland ĐT607 through Điện Ngọc. In the 07:00–08:00 and 17:00–18:30 peaks, add fifteen. On a wet October afternoon, add more and take the inland road.
What time do trains actually arrive?
Đà Nẵng is the midpoint of the North–South line, so its arrivals are scattered rather than clustered. The 2026 published pattern:
| Train | From | Arrives Đà Nẵng |
|---|---|---|
| SE22 | Sài Gòn | about 05:55 |
| SE3 | Hà Nội | about 10:36 |
| SE19 | Hà Nội | about 12:15 |
| SE4 | Sài Gòn | about 12:42 |
| SE2 | Sài Gòn | about 13:40 |
| SE7 | Hà Nội | about 22:43 |
Treat these as the shape of the day, not gospel — the timetable is reissued seasonally and rewritten entirely around Tết, and a sixteen-hour run accumulates delay. Check dsvn.vn against the number on your own ticket, then give us that number rather than the hour. A train number resolves itself on the station board; "the morning train" does not.
Two of those arrivals need real planning. 05:55 puts you in Hội An before 07:15, hours ahead of any check-in — the fix is a bag drop and breakfast, not a faster car. 22:43 puts you at an Old Town edge around midnight, when the last lanes are dark and the walk from the drop-off point is the part you will remember.
What is the heritage train over Hải Vân, and is it worth it?
The tourist service between Huế and Đà Nẵng — Hành trình kết nối di sản miền Trung — is the one piece of Vietnamese rail we actively recommend, because it goes where our cars cannot. Below the pass road, the line runs on a shelf cut into the seaward cliff, crosses the steel bridges above Lăng Cô, and holds the water in the window for close to forty minutes.
Two pairs run daily, about 103 km in two and a half to three hours:
- HĐ1 — Huế 07:45, Đà Nẵng 10:35
- HĐ3 — Huế 14:25, Đà Nẵng 17:40
- HĐ2 — Đà Nẵng 07:50, Huế 11:05
- HĐ4 — Đà Nẵng 15:00, Huế 17:45
Each service pauses roughly ten minutes at ga Lăng Cô so people can get out and photograph the bay. The launch fare was 150,000 VND a seat, with a 900,000 VND monthly ticket and priority discounts between 10 and 50 percent; a deeper group promotion ran from 20 May to 16 August 2026. Higher numbers, around 220,000 VND, circulate for the refurbished stock and for resold seats.
What changed on the heritage train in 2026?
On 26 March 2026, two years into the service, Vietnam Railways and the Huế authorities relaunched the train with a rebuilt interior: sixteen carriages refurbished, twelve in the running pair, 56 soft seats each, the seats replaced with units that rotate 180 degrees so a group can face one another or turn to the sea. The panoramic glazing was widened with anti-glare tempered glass aimed squarely at the Lăng Cô and Hải Vân stretch, and LED lighting, a sound system and journey-information screens went in. The exterior carries Huế's imperial purple against a light grey for Đà Nẵng. Operators reported more than 440,000 passengers across the first two years.
What that means practically: the windows are now good enough that seat choice matters. Northbound, the sea is on your right.
Is the station about to move?
Yes, but not this trip. The approved plan puts a new passenger station near hồ Trung Nghĩa, roughly 4.2 km north of the present one, with construction running from the third quarter of 2026 through 2030, phase one costed at about 2,293 billion VND, and freight operations moving out to ga Kim Liên. A later phase contemplates a station out at Hòa Sơn for the North–South high-speed line.
Until the new hall opens, every passenger train still calls at 791 Hải Phòng. When it does move, the Hội An transfer gets slightly longer, not shorter — it starts further north.
Can you take a train to Hội An itself?
No. There is no station in Hội An and never has been; the line runs inland, well west of the river. The closest stop is ga Trà Kiệu, 15 to 20 km out and 20 to 30 minutes by car, but only a few slower services call there and the platform has nothing waiting on it. Unless you are specifically pairing it with Mỹ Sơn, which is genuinely close to that side of the valley, get off at Đà Nẵng.
How does a rail arrival work from the driver's seat?
The forecourt at 791 Hải Phòng is small and taxi-heavy. Private cars wait on the Hải Phòng frontage rather than nosing into the rank, so the meeting point is the hall doorway, not the platform — you will be walked to the car, which is a hundred metres, not a hike.
Then the honest part about the other end: a car cannot deliver you to your door in the Old Town. The protected core is closed to cars at every hour, so the drive ends at a ring lot or a lane mouth and the last two to four hundred metres are on foot or on an electric shuttle. At 05:55 that is a pleasant walk through a town that is only just opening. At midnight off SE7, it is worth knowing before it happens.
Timings that work in reverse, if you are the one boarding:
- For HĐ2 at 07:50, leave Hội An by 06:20. The road is empty, the station is quiet, and twenty minutes of margin costs nothing.
- For HĐ4 at 15:00, leave by 13:30 — the same run, but with the afternoon build-up on the bridges.
- For an evening SE south, leave Hội An at least two hours before departure in October or November; high water on the Thu Bồn is a delay you cannot argue with.
The combination we drive most often is the good one: the train north to Huế in the morning, a car meeting it at ga Huế for the tombs and Đại Nội, then the road back south over the Hải Vân Pass in the late afternoon, stopping at the summit and the Lập An lagoon that the train only glimpses. Same corridor, twice, and neither direction wastes the other.
If you want the car half of that day arranged — tell us the trip at hoiandriver.com/quote, train number included. A real driver quotes it, a 10% deposit books it and holds your driver and dates, and the balance is settled in USD at the end of the trip.
good questions
- Where is Da Nang train station?
- Ga Đà Nẵng is at 791 Hải Phòng, in the Thanh Khê quarter on the west side of the city, roughly 4 km from the Hàn River waterfront and under 4 km from Đà Nẵng International Airport. It is the only mainline passenger station serving the city.
- How far is Hoi An from Da Nang train station?
- About 33 km, and 50 to 65 minutes by car. The station sits on the far side of the city from the coast road, so the drive starts with 15 to 20 minutes of Đà Nẵng traffic before it reaches either the beach road or the inland ĐT607 through Điện Ngọc.
- Is there a train station in Hoi An?
- No. The nearest stop on the North–South line is ga Trà Kiệu, roughly 15 to 20 km west of Hội An and 20 to 30 minutes by car, but only a handful of slower services call there. Almost every rail traveller bound for Hội An gets off at Đà Nẵng.
- What time do trains arrive at Da Nang station?
- Published 2026 times spread across the clock: SE22 from Sài Gòn at about 05:55, SE3 from Hà Nội at about 10:36, SE19 at about 12:15, SE4 at about 12:42, SE2 at about 13:40 and SE7 at about 22:43. Timetables shift seasonally and at Tết, so check dsvn.vn against your own ticket.
- What is the Hue to Da Nang heritage train?
- The tourist service branded Hành trình kết nối di sản miền Trung, running two pairs a day over the Hải Vân rail line: HĐ1 leaves Huế 07:45 and reaches Đà Nẵng 10:35; HĐ3 leaves Huế 14:25 for 17:40; HĐ2 leaves Đà Nẵng 07:50 for Huế 11:05; HĐ4 leaves Đà Nẵng 15:00 for Huế 17:45. Trains pause about 10 minutes at ga Lăng Cô for photographs.
- How much is the heritage train from Da Nang to Hue?
- The fare published at launch was 150,000 VND a seat, with a 900,000 VND monthly ticket and discounts of 10 to 50 percent for priority categories; higher figures around 220,000 VND circulate for the refurbished carriages and resold seats. Promotions come and go — a deep group discount ran from 20 May to 16 August 2026.
- Is Da Nang train station moving?
- Eventually. The approved plan builds a new passenger station near hồ Trung Nghĩa, about 4.2 km north of the present one, with construction running from the third quarter of 2026 to 2030 and freight shifting to ga Kim Liên. Until that station opens, every train still calls at 791 Hải Phòng.
- Should we take the train or drive from Hoi An to Hue?
- Do one of each. The rail line hugs the water below the Hải Vân Pass where the road cannot go, so the train is the better view northbound; the car is the better day southbound, because it can stop at the pass summit, the lagoon and lunch. Most guests who do both prefer train up, car back.
