Heaven's Gate Dong Giang 2026: The Mountain Road West of Da Nang
Cổng Trời Đông Giang holds a Vietnamese record for natural waterfalls, and almost everything written about it skips the part that decides your day: 70 km of Quốc lộ 14G. The 2026 prices, the real drive times, and what October does to a mountain highway 4.5 metres wide.

Every brochure about Cổng Trời Đông Giang opens with the waterfalls and ends with the glass bridge. Nobody mentions Quốc lộ 14G, which is strange, because the highway is the trip. Seventy kilometres of single-carriageway mountain road decides what time you leave, what time you get home, and in October whether you go at all.
So here is the version from the driver's seat: the 2026 prices, the honest drive times, and what the wet season does to a road 4.5 metres wide.
Where is Heaven's Gate, and why do older maps say Quảng Nam?
It sits in the Trường Sơn range at Đông Giang, about 70 km west of central Đà Nẵng and roughly 85 km from Hội An Old Town. Until 1 July 2025 that was Quảng Nam province; since the merger, Đông Giang is part of Đà Nẵng city. The practical consequence is small but useful: road notices, repair orders and storm warnings for this route now come out of Đà Nẵng, so that is where to look when the weather is bad.
This is Cơ Tu country — the mountain communities west of the coastal plain — and the drive climbs out of Hòa Vang's rice flats into genuinely different terrain within forty minutes of leaving the highway.
What is actually up there?
More than the marketing suggests. The site covers over 120 hectares, opened in April 2022, and is built around 25 natural waterfalls — enough to hold a Vietnamese record for the most natural waterfalls inside a single tourism area. Thác Tiên and Thác Trứng Rồng are the two usually singled out.
The engineering is real too. The cable car runs over 1.6 km, supplied by Doppelmayr Garaventa of Austria, with 2 stations, 7 towers and 19 cabins and capacity above 1,000 passengers an hour. There is a glass viewing bridge, restaurants and on-site accommodation.
Opening hours are 08:00 to 17:30, and that is the number that governs everything else.
What does it cost in 2026?
The 2026 season tariff, running to 31 December:
- Entry: 300,000 VND adult, 250,000 VND child between 1 m and 1.4 m
- Cable car plus glass bridge: 200,000 VND adult, 150,000 VND child
- Entry plus cable car plus glass bridge: 450,000 VND adult, 370,000 VND child
- Entry plus lunch: 500,000 VND adult, 400,000 VND child
- Everything plus lunch: 650,000 VND adult
The combination is worth doing deliberately. Entry alone and a walk around the lower falls is a pleasant two hours; the cable car is what makes the drive proportionate, because it puts you over the forest rather than beside it.
How long is the drive, really?
From Đà Nẵng: 70 km, and allow a solid two hours. From Hội An: about 85 km and 2 hours 15 to 2 hours 45 depending on where in town you start and what the road is doing that week.
If those numbers look slow for the distance, that is the point. Quốc lộ 14G runs 66 km from Hòa Vang into Đông Giang on a carriageway only 4.5 to 5.5 metres wide. Báo Đà Nẵng has reported the route as a genuine bottleneck: of the 41 km through Đông Giang, around 5 km has been upgraded to standard and some 36 km has not, with sections badly worn. Trucks going the other way mean stopping, not overtaking. There is no version of this road where you average 60 km/h.
What does October do to it?
This is the part to take seriously, and the reason this article exists in early October rather than in May.
Quốc lộ 14G degrades quickly after rain — mountain terrain, heavy rainfall, old road structure — and Vietnamese reporting has documented repeated sạt lở, landslides, and surface collapse along it. Đà Nẵng has issued emergency construction orders to repair landslide damage on its national highways, and in mid-September 2026 prolonged rain triggered landslides across the city's mountain routes and a disaster-response công điện. The road authority has built bridges on the route specifically to remove fords that became dangerous in flood season, which tells you what the route used to do when the water rose.
None of that makes the trip reckless. It makes it conditional. Our rule for Đông Giang between October and February is simple and we apply it without negotiation:
- Go on a settled forecast, not a hopeful one. A clear two-day window is fine. A storm bulletin is not.
- Be off the mountain before dark. Descending 14G at 18:00 in rain is the one part of this trip with no upside.
- Keep a coastal alternative ready. If the forecast turns overnight, the day becomes Bà Nà, Marble Mountains or Mỹ Sơn instead — all on roads that do not care about a landslide warning.
When should you leave, and what shape is the day?
From Đà Nẵng: leave 07:00, gates at 09:00, four to five hours inside, start down by 15:30, home around 17:30. That is a comfortable day.
From Hội An: leave 06:30 to be there near opening. You are looking at roughly five hours of driving around a four-hour visit — doable, and genuinely long. In the wet months the better answer is the overnight: stay on site, let the afternoon rain happen while you are already there, and drive home the next morning with the road dry and the light good.
The drop-off reality is easy, which is unusual. There is proper parking at the entrance, the car waits on site, and your driver has somewhere to sit for the afternoon — no closure lines, no pedestrian hours, none of the Old Town choreography. The whole difficulty of this trip is the road, and the road is the part you can hand over.
If you want this one driven — the 06:30 start, the forecast watched the night before, the call on whether 14G is a good idea this week — tell us the day at hoiandriver.com/quote. A real driver prices it, booking takes nothing up front, and the whole total is settled at the end of the trip.
good questions
- Where is Cong Troi Dong Giang?
- In the Trường Sơn mountains at Đông Giang, roughly 70 km west of central Đà Nẵng and about 85 km from Hội An Old Town. It was Quảng Nam province until the 1 July 2025 merger; Đông Giang now sits inside Đà Nẵng city, so current notices and road works come from Đà Nẵng.
- How much are Cong Troi Dong Giang tickets in 2026?
- For the 2026 season: 300,000 VND adult entry and 250,000 VND for children between 1 m and 1.4 m. The cable car and glass bridge are a separate 200,000 VND adult, 150,000 VND child. Bundled, entry plus cable car plus glass bridge is 450,000 VND adult and 370,000 VND child, and the version with lunch is 650,000 VND for an adult.
- What are the opening hours?
- 08:00 to 17:30. Because the drive is two hours or more each way, those hours are the whole constraint on the day — a late start does not leave enough daylight inside the gates to justify the road.
- How long does the drive from Hoi An or Da Nang take?
- From Đà Nẵng, allow a solid two hours for 70 km; from Hội An, 2 hours 15 to 2 hours 45 for about 85 km. The distance is not the issue. Quốc lộ 14G is a single carriageway 4.5 to 5.5 metres wide through mountain terrain, so average speeds are low and overtaking is rare.
- Is the road to Dong Giang safe in the rainy season?
- It is driveable in settled weather and not worth gambling on in a storm. Vietnamese road reporting has documented repeated landslides and surface collapse on Quốc lộ 14G after heavy rain, and in mid-September 2026 prolonged rain triggered landslides on Đà Nẵng's mountain routes and a city disaster-response order. We drive it on a clear forecast and move the day when the forecast turns.
- What is actually there?
- An ecotourism development of more than 120 hectares built around 25 natural waterfalls — enough to hold a Vietnamese record for the most natural waterfalls inside one tourism area, with Thác Tiên and Thác Trứng Rồng the two usually singled out. On top of that, a cable car over 1.6 km long supplied by Doppelmayr Garaventa of Austria, with 2 stations, 7 towers and 19 cabins, plus a glass viewing bridge, restaurants and accommodation.
- Is it better as a day trip or an overnight?
- From Đà Nẵng a day trip works comfortably. From Hội An it is a long day — roughly five hours of driving around a four-hour visit — and in the wet months an overnight at the resort is the version that removes the 17:00 mountain-road descent from the plan entirely.
- Can you combine it with Ba Na Hills?
- Not in one day, and the pairing tempts people because both lie west. They are separate mountains on separate roads, each needing a full day of its own. Trying to do both produces two rushed half-visits and a lot of hill driving in the dark.
