Bà Nà Hills and the Golden Bridge 2026: Tickets, First Cabins and the Road Up

The last twenty minutes of the drive to Bà Nà are the only part anyone remembers. You leave the flat coastal plain west of Đà Nẵng, the road narrows into ĐT602, and it starts climbing through eucalyptus and acacia in tight bends until the trees open and there is a cable car station in the middle of a forest. That is ga Suối Mơ, the base. Everything above it — the French Village, Fantasy Park, the wine cellar, and the bridge everybody came for — is reachable only by cable.

This is the one big Đà Nẵng day where the car does nothing dramatic and the timing does everything. Get the departure right and you are on Cầu Vàng in clear light with room to stand. Get it wrong and you arrive with the coaches.

What is Bà Nà, and why is it on top of a mountain?

Because the French put it there. In April 1901, Captain Victor Adrien Debay led a survey party up Núi Chúa under orders from Governor-General Paul Doumer, who wanted a Đà Lạt of his own within reach of the coast. The summit ridge sits just under 1,500 m, and it was cool, flat enough to build on, and close to Đà Nẵng — the whole case, in one line.

Bà Nà was made a forest reserve in 1912. The first wooden villa, built by a lawyer named Beisson, went up in 1919; the Morin hotel and its 22 rooms opened in 1923; the mountain road was finished in 1928. By the late 1930s there were more than two hundred villas, hotels, a hospital and the hầm rượu Debay wine cellar cut into the rock, and a summer population of thousands. Then war, then decades of nothing, and the ruins went back under the forest. What you walk through today is a resort built on that history rather than the history itself — though the wine cellar is genuinely old, and worth ten minutes.

One administrative note that confuses map searches: since 1 July 2025, under Nghị quyết 1659/NQ-UBTVQH15, the old Hòa Ninh and Hòa Nhơn communes were merged into a new commune called xã Bà Nà. Addresses are still catching up. The base station has not moved.

How much is a Bà Nà Hills ticket in 2026?

The published adult ticket is 1,000,000 VND — about 38 USD — and it is not just the cable car. It covers the round trip plus entry to Cầu Vàng, the Làng Pháp French Village, Fantasy Park, the Moon Castle and Le Jardin d'Amour gardens. Residents of Đà Nẵng have a separate published rate of 650,000 VND. Children are priced by height measured at the gate: under 1 m free, 1 m to 1.4 m at a reduced rate, over 1.4 m at the adult price.

Two changes matter this year.

Since 1 January 2026, a ticket is valid for three consecutive days, with unlimited cable car rides inside that window rather than the single day it used to buy. For a Hội An guest doing one long day trip this changes nothing. For anyone based in Đà Nẵng for a week, it turns a 1,000,000 VND gamble on the weather into two attempts.

The youth offer closes on 15 August 2026. From 10 July, visitors born in 2001 or later have been paying 500,000 VND instead of 1,000,000, on production of an original ID card, passport, driving licence or VNeID account at the ticket window. If that is your group and you are already in Quảng Nam or Đà Nẵng, the difference between going this week and going next week is half the ticket.

What time do the cabins start, and when do you leave Hội An?

First cabins are published for 08:00. Cable cars run until about 19:00 and the resort stays open to 22:00, but the last sensible ride up is mid-to-late afternoon.

From a Hội An hotel, leaving at 06:30 to 06:45 puts you at the base station gate for opening. The drive is 55 to 60 km and takes 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30: out through Điện Bàn, across the Cẩm Lệ bridge, west on Hoàng Văn Thái, then ĐT602 into the hills. From central Đà Nẵng it is around 30 km and 45 minutes; from Đà Nẵng airport, much the same.

That early start is not fussiness. The tour coaches load at Đà Nẵng beach hotels between 08:00 and 09:00 and arrive in a block from around 09:30, which is exactly when the queue at the Golden Bridge stops being a queue and becomes a crowd. An hour and a half of clear mountain before that is the entire argument for the early car.

What is Cầu Vàng actually like?

Smaller than the photographs suggest, and better. It is about 150 m long, eight spans, curving out from the hillside at 1,414 m, carried by two enormous weathered stone hands — the design idea being giant hands drawing a thread of gold out of the mountain. It opened in June 2018, designed by TA Landscape Architecture, and it is the only bridge in Đà Nẵng that crosses no river at all.

Walk it early and you get the thing everyone wants: cloud moving below the handrail and the coastal plain visible all the way to the sea. Walk it at 11:00 in high season and you are in a slow-moving line of people photographing each other. It is the same bridge. The difference is the two hours you did or did not get up for.

Which cable car lines matter?

The flagship line, Thác Tóc Tiên – L'Indochine, holds four Guinness records, including the world's longest single-rope cable car at 5,771.61 m and the greatest elevation difference between stations at 1,368.93 m. It has been carrying people since the system's first line, Suối Mơ – Bà Nà, opened on 25 March 2009.

The newest is line 8, opened 30 April 2025, running from the Hội An 2 station to the Vương quốc Mặt Trăng — Moon Kingdom — area, adding roughly 3,000 people an hour of capacity. In practice that means the old bottleneck at peak hours has eased, and there are now two sensible ways down rather than one. Ask at the station which line is running fastest; it changes by the hour.

What is the weather doing up there?

Assume 8 to 10 degrees cooler than the coast and dress for it. Hội An at 34°C in August routinely means 24°C and wet on the ridge, and people arrive in shorts and buy a fleece at the top for more than it is worth. Bring a light layer in the car.

The summit makes its own cloud, and morning is the reliable half of the day in every season. From October into December, the wet months, the cloud often sits on the ridge from dawn to dusk and the bridge photograph is simply not available — the French Village and the indoor halls of Fantasy Park still work, which is why the three-day ticket matters more in winter than in summer. Cable cars also pause in lightning and high wind; that is a safety call by the operator and no amount of planning gets around it.

How does the day work from the car?

Your driver takes you to the base station car park, and waits there. There is no road to the top for visitors, so nothing is gained by anyone driving up behind you. Luggage stays locked in the car, which makes this a workable stop on a departure day if the flight is genuinely late — though with eight to nine hours door to door from Hội An, Bà Nà is usually a day in its own right rather than something you slot into a transfer.

Come down when you come down. There is no pickup time to hit, no meeting point to find, and no pressure from our side if the queue at the Golden Bridge ran long — you walk out of the station and the car is where you left it.
